I’m often asked why I decided to become an acupuncture and herbal medicine practitioner?
There are several contributing factors. The first is that my father is a Chiropractor, and as a result natural health care has been a way of life for me since I was a child. I was about 14 years old when my dad gave me my first acupuncture treatment and I remember how amazed I was at the immediate response I experienced at that time.
Over the years many people have told me how acupuncture and chiropractic changed their lives. Through my personal experiences and the experiences other people shared with me I often found myself trying to educate people on the benefits of acupuncture and chiropractic.
I remember when I decided to pursue an education in Oriental Medicine. I was reading a book on the philosophy of Chinese medicine and realized that it was very close to the way I was already living my life. At that time I was also able to attend part of an acupuncture seminar with my father.
There I heard many success stories of acupuncture that the doctors had experienced themselves or with patients. I remember one doctor in particular who had tears in his eyes as he told us how acupuncture had essentially given one of his patients their life back.
I realized this was the path to a better life for me and everyone else, and the next year I was attending my first classes in Oriental Medicine. In August 2006, I graduated from the Minnesota College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine with a Master of Oriental Medicine degree. The education in Oriental Medicine consists of class and clinical work that totals more than 3,000 hours devoted to the study and practice of acupuncture and herbal medicine.
I have a superior education in acupuncture and herbal medicine. The reason it is superior is that I have been taught by highly educated, exceptionally trained TCM practitioners. Many have had personal practices or worked in hospital settings for many years before they became teachers. In some cases these teachers are multiple generation doctors. It is because of them I have acquired a thorough understanding of the foundations of Chinese medicine and I have been taught unique acupuncture techniques by them to initiate healing responses within the body.
I feel very fortunate to be able to share in the healing process and to see quality of life improve with better health.
